How Often Do You Really Need to Wash Your Bed Sheets?

Sheets may need washing every three to four days if you sweat heavily, sleep with pets, have allergies, asthma, acne, or a skin condition, or have recently been ill. Pillowcases may also benefit from more frequent washing because they collect oils, saliva, and skincare products.

Washing every two weeks may be acceptable when you shower before bed, sleep in cool conditions, keep pets off the bed, and do not have allergies or skin concerns. Visible stains, odors, itching, or worsening morning allergies are signs that the bedding should be cleaned sooner.

Follow the fabric care label, use a suitable detergent, and dry sheets completely before putting them back on the bed. Regular washing, clean sleepwear, mattress protectors, and airing out the bed can help keep bedding fresher and more comfortable.
