Warning Signs of Diabetes That May Show Up at Night

Tingling, burning, or uncomfortable sensations in the legs may sometimes be linked to nerve problems associated with long-term high blood sugar. Loud snoring, pauses in breathing, and waking up gasping can also suggest sleep apnea, which is commonly associated with type 2 diabetes.

Other possible signs include waking with a dry mouth, feeling exhausted despite getting enough sleep, difficulty concentrating, and repeatedly waking throughout the night. Blood sugar fluctuations can interfere with normal sleep and leave you feeling unrefreshed in the morning.

These symptoms do not automatically mean you have diabetes, since many other conditions can cause them. However, if several happen frequently, a healthcare professional can check your blood sugar with appropriate testing and determine whether diabetes or another condition may be responsible.
