Surprising Numbers: How Often Should You Urinate by Age?

Share Facebook X

Teenagers and adults commonly urinate around 4–8 times per day, although drinking more water, caffeine, or alcohol can increase that number. Older adults may also wake more often during the night because of age-related bladder changes.

Frequent urination can sometimes be linked to urinary tract infections, diabetes, an overactive bladder, pregnancy, prostate enlargement, or certain medications. Urinating less than usual may happen with dehydration or heavy sweating.

What matters most is knowing your normal pattern. If you suddenly urinate much more or less than usual, or notice pain, burning, blood, cloudy urine, weak flow, or strong urgency, speak with a healthcare professional.
