Smell is another useful clue. A spoiled egg often has a strong, unpleasant odor, so if an egg smells bad after cracking, it should be discarded rather than eaten.
You can also inspect the shell and the inside of the egg. Cracks, sticky or powdery surfaces, or unusual colors such as pink, green, black, or blue may indicate spoilage or contamination.
The water test is another popular method: fresh eggs usually sink and lie flat, while older eggs may stand upright or float because their internal air pocket grows over time. A floating egg is a strong sign that it is quite old and should be checked carefully before use.
