For some households, the light can be useful as a soft nighttime guide in the kitchen, especially when someone gets up for water or needs to move around without turning on bright ceiling lights.
However, keeping the light on every night will still use some electricity and gradually shorten the bulb’s lifespan. In open-plan homes, the glow may also disturb sleep if the kitchen is close to bedrooms.
If you do not really need the light overnight, turning it off is the most energy-efficient choice. Motion-activated lights, plug-in night lights, or dimmable bulbs can provide safer nighttime visibility while using less energy and creating less unnecessary light.
