Waking Up With Itchy Bumps? Your Bedding Could Be Hiding an Unwelcome Guest

Bed bug bites often appear in clusters or lines on exposed areas such as the arms, neck, shoulders, or legs. Other clues include tiny dark spots on sheets, small blood stains, shed skins, or pale eggs around mattress seams, although mosquitoes, fleas, allergies, and eczema can cause similar marks.

If bed bugs are suspected, carefully inspect the mattress and surrounding furniture, wash and heat-dry bedding when appropriate, vacuum cracks and seams, and reduce clutter. Larger infestations often require professional pest control because simply changing sheets or using household sprays may not eliminate them completely.

Bed bugs are not known to transmit disease through their bites, but scratching can lead to skin infection and repeated bites can disturb sleep. If the bumps persist, become painful or infected, or occur with fever or breathing difficulty, seek medical attention because another condition may be responsible.
