Most people plug in their phones before going to sleep without thinking twice about where the device is resting. Yet something as ordinary as overnight charging can become risky when the phone is left on a bed, pillow, couch, or underneath blankets. Phones and charging adapters naturally create some heat while operating, and hard surfaces such as a table or nightstand allow that heat to escape. Soft materials do the opposite. Blankets, mattresses, and pillows can trap warmth around the device, reducing airflow and causing temperatures to climb.
