Hayden Panettiere spent the final years of her life carrying a grief that never completely disappeared: the loss of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere. The siblings had grown up together in an unusual world, both entering the entertainment industry at young ages and experiencing pressures few children could fully understand. Hayden eventually became internationally known through Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise, while Jansen pursued acting before increasingly devoting himself to painting and other artwork. Their relationship remained close into adulthood. In January 2023, Jansen shared a playful photograph of Hayden cutting his hair, an ordinary sibling moment that nobody could have known would become one of their final public photographs together. Only weeks later, in February 2023, Jansen died unexpectedly at 28. His family later said his sudden death resulted from cardiomegaly—an enlarged heart—combined with complications involving the aortic valve.
