During its larval stage, the insect carries a flat gray case that protects it while it searches for food. It feeds on materials such as hair, lint, spiderwebs, dead insects, feathers, wool, silk, paper, and other organic debris.
Kamitetep prefer warm, humid places and may hide in closets, basements, garages, attics, carpets, storage boxes, walls, and ceilings. Although they do not directly harm people or pets, they can damage fabrics, rugs, clothing, and documents if their numbers increase.
To control them, vacuum thoroughly, remove visible cases, reduce clutter and humidity, and seal cracks around doors and windows. If they continue multiplying despite cleaning, professional pest control may be necessary.
