How to Get Rid of Maggots in Your Trash Can and Keep Them Away

Share Facebook X

Start by emptying the bin completely and removing all visible maggots and waste. Wash the inside thoroughly with hot soapy water, then rinse and let it dry before adding a new trash bag.

To prevent them from returning, keep food scraps tightly sealed, take garbage out regularly, and avoid letting liquids collect at the bottom of the bin. Keeping the lid closed also helps stop flies from getting inside.

Cleaning the trash can frequently is the best long-term solution. If the problem keeps returning, check for hidden food waste nearby and make sure the bin is stored in a cool, dry, well-sealed area.
