She also stops giving monthly financial help to her son Trevor and puts the money aside for her grandchildren instead. When Trevor warns that Kendra might keep the children away unless Marlene agrees, she realizes they are using emotional pressure to force her decision.
Roland later reveals that Kendra falsely told him Marlene had invited him, leaving him embarrassed and without housing. Marlene helps him find another place, but Kendra and Trevor soon return with documents suggesting the house be transferred to Trevor while Marlene moves into the basement.
Marlene refuses and warns that although Trevor is currently set to inherit the house, that can change if they continue trying to take control of it. Roland supports her decision, Trevor eventually stops making demands, and Marlene keeps her home, independence, and right to set boundaries.
