The lights gathered gradually until the towers appeared complete in the night sky. Then, just as slowly, the image began to dissolve as the lights separated and faded into the darkness.
The fading towers carried a powerful message: the tribute was not only about the buildings, but about the individual lives behind the tragedy. Each light represented one person and one story.
Families, survivors, and first responders from the 9/11 community were involved in the project. Although the towers appeared only briefly, the memory represented by the 2,977 lights remains.
