Sleeping on the left side may reduce reflux symptoms because of the stomach’s natural shape and the effect of gravity. Some research suggests it can lower nighttime acid exposure.
Still, sleeping on the right side is not harmful for everyone. Large late meals, certain foods and drinks, and lying down soon after eating can also increase reflux symptoms.
If you sleep comfortably on your right side, there may be no need to change. But if reflux happens often, trying the left side, avoiding late meals, and speaking with a healthcare professional if symptoms persist may help.
