For people with nighttime reflux, sleeping on the left side may help keep stomach contents lower and reduce acid moving toward the esophagus. However, not everyone experiences problems when sleeping on the right.
Reflux can also be influenced by large meals, certain foods and drinks, and lying down too soon after eating. Leaving some time between dinner and bedtime may improve nighttime comfort.
If you sleep comfortably on your right side, there may be no need to change positions. But if reflux happens regularly, trying the left side and discussing persistent symptoms with a healthcare professional may help.
