Before entering, Jenna overhears Gary admitting that he never truly loved her mother and only stayed for the house. Even worse, he says his kindness toward Jenna was an act and reveals that he secretly destroyed letters her biological father had sent over the years.
Devastated, Jenna confronts him and leaves. Weeks later, she checks her mother’s will and discovers that the house was left entirely to her, meaning Gary—the man who claimed he stayed for the property—had no legal right to it.
Jenna returns with the paperwork, and Gary quietly moves out. Although she can never recover the lost letters or years of deception, she realizes her mother left her more than a house: she left her the strength and security to reclaim her life and future.
