There she meets David, a 70-year-old widower from Edinburgh. The two spend the week exploring Malta, sharing stories about grief, and slowly growing close as they rediscover joy together.
On their final evening, Margaret learns David has not been completely honest about the trip. He reveals that his daughter Rosie encouraged him to travel because she feared he had stopped living after losing his wife, and she had been cheering him on as he grew closer to Margaret.
David asks Margaret whether she wants to continue seeing him after they return home. She realizes that finding happiness again does not erase the love she had for Robert, and she returns from Malta ready to keep saying yes to life.
