Determined to protect her independence, she arranged to move to Valencia. Before leaving, her attorney revealed that Trevor had secretly placed a second mortgage on the house she had bought for him and forged her signature as a guarantor.
Instead of immediately reporting him, she gave Trevor one year to refinance the mortgage entirely in his own name. He managed to do so after nine months and later separated from Marisol.
Now living in Valencia, the narrator remains independent and close to parts of her family. Although her tremor has worsened, she knows her illness never took away her ability to make her own choices or decide how she wanted to live.
