If You Find This Insect in Your Home, Here’s What It Could Mean

Different insect species behave in different ways, so getting a clear photo and carefully observing the bug can help determine whether it is harmless or something that requires attention. Once identified, check areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, basements, garages, and laundry rooms for moisture, crumbs, pet food, standing water, or overflowing trash that may be attracting insects.

Keeping the home clean can make a major difference. Regularly wiping counters, vacuuming floors, storing food in sealed containers, emptying garbage, fixing leaking pipes, and improving ventilation in damp areas can remove many of the resources insects depend on. These simple steps often help prevent bugs from staying indoors.

It is also important to inspect the outside of the house for entry points. Small gaps around doors, windows, pipes, vents, damaged screens, or foundation cracks can allow insects inside. Sealing these openings, keeping shrubs and branches away from the house, removing piles of leaves, and eliminating standing water can greatly reduce the chances of insects returning.
