From a practical perspective, there is usually a much simpler explanation. House geckos enter homes because they are looking for food, warmth, and shelter. They feed on mosquitoes, flies, moths, ants, and other insects, so homes where insects gather—especially around lights and open windows—can naturally attract them.
In fact, most house geckos are beneficial because they act as natural pest controllers. They generally avoid people and rarely cause problems. Their presence can simply indicate that insects are available nearby rather than being a sign that something unusual or mysterious is happening.
If you prefer not to have lizards indoors, reducing insects is one of the most effective approaches. Keeping the house clean, sealing gaps around windows and doors, removing standing water, and reducing bright outdoor lighting can make the area less attractive to both insects and geckos. Whether you consider a visiting lizard lucky or simply useful ultimately depends on your beliefs.
