Dad had temporarily been staying with Natalie because his furnace failed during a winter storm, something Vanessa apparently didn’t know. Her story became even more suspicious when Dad contacted Harold, a longtime friend and former funeral-home owner, who revealed that someone had recently asked about Dad’s prepaid funeral arrangements and what paperwork would be necessary if he died at home. Dad’s attorney then confirmed that Vanessa had also asked about accessing estate property during a medical emergency, while someone had attempted to transfer Dad’s phone number to another device.
When Natalie and Dad returned to his house, they found Vanessa and Grant there with a locksmith and someone preparing to evaluate Dad’s truck. Police were called to document what had happened.
