Mia Knight and Sophia Liano brought a demanding song to the Battle Rounds of The Voice, performing “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman as fellow members of Team Queen Latifah. Their duet drew praise from all four coaches—and left Queen Latifah with a difficult choice about who should advance.

The singers had already made an impression during rehearsals, when Latifah said their voices gave her chills. Onstage, each showcased her vocal ability in front of the coaches and Patti LaBelle, who was advising the team. LaBelle had previously singled out 16-year-old Knight, comparing her with Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.
Riley Green said the performance surprised him, and praised both singers’ different strengths: Sophia Liano’s tone and Knight’s vocal range. Adam Levine also complimented Liano’s technical skill and distinctive sound, while noting Knight’s control and maturity for her age. He said her command of the song stood out despite her being just 16.
Kelly Clarkson’s reaction was more visible: she jumped out of her chair during the duet. She later pointed to a run from Knight as a moment that shifted her impression of a closely matched performance. Latifah also remarked that one of the singers’ notes had cracked a stone in her ring.

Latifah’s choice
After praising both contestants, Latifah had to select one to continue in the competition. She acknowledged Liano’s performance but focused on Knight’s progress during preparation, as well as the teenager’s confidence and command of the microphone. Latifah felt Knight performed with a strong sense of ownership over both the song and the stage.
The decision also resonated with Latifah personally: her first record was released when she was 17, just a year older than Knight. She said the teenager was ready to move forward, and chose her as the Battle winner. Knight advanced to the next stage, while Liano’s performance earned praise from the coaches.
The exchange captured the central challenge of the Battle: both singers delivered distinct strengths, but Latifah had only one place to award. Their performance prompted enthusiastic responses from Green, Clarkson and Levine before the coach made her selection. The Voice airs Mondays on NBC.
