Rocketing to fame as a teenage heartthrob when “Everlasting Love” hit No. 1 on the UK charts in January 1968, Ellis soon grew disillusioned with being trapped in a commercial machine where session musicians played the instruments, prompting him to walk away at the height of his success in 1969 to pursue a real working band.
Stepping away from the music industry entirely in 1981 to work as a docker, Ellis endured years of grueling physical labor before suffering a devastating forklift accident that resulted in severe foot injuries and nearly a decade of painful bone grafts and hospital visits.
Making a triumphant return to music with support from rock legends like Paul Weller and Roger Daltrey on his 2008 album *The Best of Days*, Ellis proved his career extended far beyond a single hit.
Though his powerful voice has now fallen silent, the timeless soaring notes of “Everlasting Love” will continue to endure across generations, standing as a fitting tribute to a legendary singer who lived an extraordinary life of reinvention and passion.
