A Delaware judge has ended the case against Hunter Biden following his father’s pardon for federal gun and tax crimes. The pardon came just days after President Biden had previously denied it would happen. U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika terminated the case, with no legal precedent for further proceedings.
Special Counsel David Weiss disagreed with the idea that the charges were politically motivated and opposed dismissing the indictment. Despite this, the judge closed the case, with future sentencing decisions pending for both Hunter’s gun and tax cases.
Hunter’s legal team also requested dismissal of his tax case in California, with a ruling still to come.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the president’s decision, explaining Biden’s belief that politics had influenced the justice process and led to a miscarriage of justice.
